Wheaton Warrenville South High School
1995-1999
Football and Track & Field

2009 Hall of Fame Inductee

Jon’s high football statistics were amazing, a team football state championship in 1999, in many people eyes one the greatest team of all-time. His 26 touchdown receptions that year was a state record at that time. He was two-time Red Grange Award winner and 1999 Chicago Tribute Male Athlete of the year, Prep Football All-American, Chicago Sun-Times all-area and all-state team, Two-time Chicago Tribune all-state team, Two-time Daily Herald all-area team Two-time conference MVP, only junior to be named MVP in the DuPage Valley, state record holder for receiving yards in a season, receiving yards in a career, and touchdown receptions in a season. He set a record for most receptions in state championship game (13). He caught 81 passes for 1,450 yards and 17 TDs his junior year and had 93 catches for 1,577 yards and 26 touchdowns his senior season. Academic all-conference in both football and track & field.

Speaking of Track & Field, Jon was just as impressive in that sport too. Having a lower leg injury most of his outdoor season his junior year he still took 3rd in state for the 110m High Hurdles. His senior year he was the State Champion 300m Intermediate Hurdles State Meet Record and State Champion 110m High Hurdles and anchored the State Champion 4 x 400m Relay. According to his Coach Ken Helberg and many more people that witness this race, this was the most dominating individual comeback victory. To highlight this run, when he took the handoff Jon was about 20 meters behind and finished the race about 20 meters ahead and this solidified the team state championship.

Jon received a scholarship to play football at Northwestern Univ. During his time there he played in 42 career games, starting 26. He closed his career with 147 all-time catches, which ranks fourth all-time at Northwestern ... Ranks seventh on school's all-time receiving yardage list with 1,670 yards ... Finished with eight career TD receptions, good for 10th all-time at NU.

Jon is presently pursuing his dream of become a teacher and coach. He has coached at North Central College, was the receiver’s coach at Wheaton Warrenville South in 2008 and is presently coaching at Matea Valley High School.
