Lenore Wilcox
Wheaton-Warrenville, Wheaton Central, Wheaton Warrenville South
1972-2003
Athletic Director, Teacher and Coach
2009 Hall of Fame Inductee

Lenore Wilcox had an extensive career in Wheaton-Warrenville Community Unit School District 200. She worked tirelessly as a teacher, coach and administrator during the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s and 2000s. She impacted and shaped many lives as a Physical Education Teacher at Edison Junior High School, Wheaton-Warrenville High School and Wheaton Central High School.
As a girl’s volleyball, girl’s basketball coach and girl’s head track & field coach, Lenore always strived to support and develop independent and strong young women. Lenore Wilcox did everything in her power to provide equal opportunities to female athletes in her community. This included hand sewing girls uniforms at her home after a long workday. Nevertheless, Lenore’s greatest impact on young people came during her 13 year stint as the Athletic Director of Wheaton Central and Wheaton Warrenville South High Schools.
Lenore was a leader in her local community, but she was also a leader in the Dupage Valley Conference and the State of Illinois. Her leadership in the DuPage Valley Conference can be realized as she played an integral role in helping the conference achieve Title IX compliance. Her leadership in the state is known as she served on the executive board of the Illinois Athletic Director Association. Because of the dedication, she was named outstanding athletic director in 1999. Lenore never backed down from the predominantly male profession. She served as the first female athletic director in CUSD 200 history and was one of only five female athletic directors at the time of her hiring in 1989.
In the end, Lenore Wilcox strongly supported female athletes and the opportunities presented to them. Regardless, this was not how she guided her charges. Her leadership always revolved around creating athletic programs that proudly represented the high schools of Wheaton Central and Wheaton Warrenville South.
